A toilet that keeps running usually has a worn part inside the cistern. It’s worth fixing quickly: SA Water says a running cistern is the most common household leak and can waste up to 260 litres a day.
Not sure if yours is leaking? Our leak detection page shows a simple check you can do yourself.
If a plunger doesn’t clear it, or the toilet gurgles or rises when other fixtures drain, the blockage is probably further down the line. We put a camera down the line to find the cause before we clear it, and in older northern suburbs homes that’s often tree roots in the original earthenware sewer drain.
Our blocked drains page explains how we clear the line.

We inspect first and tell you whether a repair will do or the toilet needs replacing. We do both, and you get a fixed, upfront price before any work starts.
